(L-R) Aruna Jagdeo, Sherry Belcher, Hella Ewing and Susan Byrd celebrate Sherry's nomination
Sherry Belcher, RN, Clinical Leader in the ACH Emergency Department has been nominated for the Johns Hopkins Nursing Shining Star Award.  This brand new awards program recognizes outstanding nurses and nursing students from the Hopkins-affiliated hospitals and the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. It's an opportunity to recognize some of the brightest stars in the galaxy of Johns Hopkins Nursing.

She will represent All Children's at "An Evening with the Stars," a celebration to be held at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing on Saturday, September 29th, where the winners will be announced.

"Sherry has been a great role model and leader within the Emergency Center at All Children's Hospital," said Aruna Jagdeo, Clinical Manager for the Emergency Services Department. "She is approachable, professional and highly respected by her peers for the work and level of expertise that she brings to the department. Her drive and enthusiasm are infectious and she inspires others to strive for nursing excellence by truly leading by example."

Over the past year, Sherry has been working on a quality improvement initiative for Hematology/Oncology patients to meet the National Gold Standard. Her project has produced great success. She also worked within a leadership cohort to help develop our new Nursing Model ("TREAT") and has assisted with the roll-out and continued education of new staff as part of her commitment to the organization.

Sherry was a recipient of the All Children's Hospital Nursing Excellence Award in 2011 and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society earlier this year. As a single mother of two, Sherry has managed to work full time and pursue an advanced degree, graduating in 2012 with her MSN with a Clinical Leader focus.

Congratulations, Sherry. You are a shining star and an inspiration to all of us!
