Congratulations to Joan Muth, RN who is the September 2011 Daisy Award Recipient. Joan has worked in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) since 2002. The DAISY Award is presented monthly to an All Children's Hospital Nurse that has provided extraordinary service to our patients.

A parent recently wrote:

Joan recognized that as new parents we needed help to better understand the plan of care (treatment) our baby would need in the NICU. She helped to make sure we were informed and comfortable. She also helped us adjust to our monthlong stay and really helped reduce the fear and stress involved. Joan treated our daughter with the care she would have given her own family member. She took extra steps to explain the procedures involved in evaluating her progress and kept us involved in the treatment process. She taught us basic baby care and parenting techniques. 

Joan took care of us in addition to our baby, making sure that we took time off. She made us feel confident we could leave our baby in her hands while we recharged. You have an excellent nursing staff and we were very impressed by the care we received. Joan stood out because of the reasons I have mentioned.

"Parents and fellow staff members frequently comment that Joan is a very positive person and demonstrates our service excellence principals on a consistent and ongoing basis," said NICU Director Cindy Driscoll, RN, BSN. "Multiple families have commented that Joan always takes the time to help them feel comfortable taking care of their babies. She is an asset to our unit and All Children's Hospital."
