Congratulations to Velma Darby, RN, BSN, CPN who is the December 2012 Daisy Award recipient. Velma is an RN in the Surgical Neuroscience Unit (7-North). The DAISY Award is presented monthly to an All Children's Hospital Nurse who has provided extraordinary service to our patients. 

Velma was nominated by a grandmother who wrote:

My two and a half year old grandchild would get sick for two hours after each feeding. I thought she was congested. When Velma came on duty I was frustrated and told her that the baby was stuffed up and asked if there was anything that could be done. Velma said she could use a machine along with saline to help break up the congestion. She had the right idea. After she suctioned the mucus out of the baby's nose, she was no longer gagging and was able to hold down two ounces of formula to meet her feeding goal in order to go home.
