Congratulations to Kelsey Grant, RN who is the November 2012 Daisy Award recipient. Kelsey is an RN in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). The DAISY Award is presented monthly to an All Children's Hospital Nurse who has provided extraordinary service to our patients.
Kelsey was nominated by a fellow employee who wrote:
Last week, I had the honor of working with Kelsey Grant. She was the bedside nurse for an ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation - a form of life support) patient that was having life support removed the following day. The father of the child asked if there was any way he could sleep next to his child for one last night. Kelsey told him she would ask if it was possible. She got permission from staff and the patient's physician. She secured a stretcher and put it next to the crib. When the parents came back to the room and saw the bed next to the crib they were so happy. The dad must have thanked her at least six times and gave her a big hug. It was the sweetest thing to see these parents take turns at the bedside sleeping and holding the hand of their daughter, knowing what the next day would bring. Kelsey gave this family something they will cherish forever - one last night sleeping next to their daughter, holding her hand.
I have worked with Kelsey for four years. She is one of those nurses that never draws attention to herself. She works with a quiet, calm demeanor and is always there to help a co-worker. She has a kind and compassionate heart. This situation was just one of the many examples of her excellent nursing skills.
"Kelsey came to ACH in 2006 as a new graduate nurse. She immediately embraced the critical care environment and became a resource to the other Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) nurses," said Susan Collins, RN, Director of the CVICU. "Her quiet demeanor and gentle approach are hallmarks of her leadership style. Kelsey is a member of the All Children's Hospital Medical Emergency Team and serves as a preceptor for the CVICU. She is also working toward a Master's Degree in Nursing at the University of South Florida. Kelsey exemplifies compassionate nursing."
Thank you Kelsey, for your service excellence to All Children's Hospital and your continued passion to pursue perfection.
