Heather Vale, RN is the May 2012 DAISY Award Recipient
Congratulations to Heather Vale, RN who is the May 2012 Daisy Award Recipient. Heather joined ACH in 2002 and has been an RN in the Radiology Department since 2011. The DAISY Award is presented monthly to an All Children's Hospital Nurse who has provided extraordinary service to our patients. Heather was nominated by a parent who wrote:
My son was required to have an extensive MRI after he came up positive on a scan for bilateral pheochromocytoma. He already had two positive urine screens for high catecholamines and positive blood work from plasma. I knew he was very ill, but I couldn't get anyone to take me seriously. All Children's Hospital was the first to believe me.
This is where Heather came to my rescue. I was told it was dangerous to put him under sedation due to his unpredictable blood pressure and heart rate. The test was going to take an hour and a half, which turned into five hours. It felt like it took forever. When it was over and I was able to see him I thought I was ok, but then I had a meltdown in front of him. Even though her 12-hour shift was over, Heather asked me to take a walk with her (since I was scaring my son). She spent at least 45 minutes with me. She helped me pull myself together and was so nice to me. I truly felt she cared. I can't tell you how much she helped me that evening. She went way beyond the call of duty and I will never forget her. She had no concerns that she was working well past the end of her shift. She could have just left and went home without another thought of me and my son, but she didn't. Please pass my gratitude to her and let her know how much it meant to me.
Heather's department director added:
Heather is compassionate, knowledgeable, dedicated and diligent with respect to her responsibilities," said MaryAnn Bruton, Director of Imaging Services. "This not only applies to her job, but it's a way of life for her. Heather is always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that her patients are cared for appropriately and are comfortable undergoing their procedure. She helps parents to make sure they are confident about the care their children receive. She is an excellent team player and a good nurse. Her coworkers think the world of her. Radiology is proud and fortunate to have her represent us."
Heather, thank you for your service excellence to All Children's Hospital and your continued passion to pursue perfection.
