Weeki Wachee Mermaids Surface at All Children's Hospital

Weeki Wachee mermaids visit All Children's Hospital

If you thought mermaids were just a figment of your imagination, you should have been at All Children's Hospital on December 20. Florida's famous Weeki Wachee mermaids came out of their cool spring waters to make a surprise visit to our patients and families. Special scooters were used help them make their way throughout the hospital. They took time to pose for pictures and sign autographs. They also brought mermaid dolls and other goodies for our patients.

Former ACH volunteer Judy Cholomitis, one of the original Weeki Wachee mermaids, was also on hand for the visit. She still participates in annual mermaid reunions and was thrilled to watch the mermaids as they put smiles on the faces of our patients.

Known as the City of Live Mermaids, Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is one of Florida's oldest and most unique roadside attractions. For almost 60 years, the park has attracted visitors with beautiful mermaids who perform in daily underwater shows. The park is located in Spring Hill, north of St. Petersburg on US 19 and state road 50.
