Fun Times at the Firehouse Family Chili Cook-off and Block Party

Lots of fun was stirred up on Saturday, October 16 when All Children's Hospital, Kohl's Cooks for Kids, St. Pete Fire and Rescue (Fossil Park Station) along with media partners Radio Disney, Parent Guide Magazine and Good Living Magazine sponsored the Firehouse Family Chili Cook-off and Block Party.

The Family Chili Cook-off activity was part of a very special community program known as Kohl's Cooks for Kids.  For the past three years, a grant from Kohl's has been supporting the efforts at All Children's to help families learn about nutrition and preparing healthy meals. Under the Kohl's grant All Children's offers fun and interactive classes and events that encourage children to make healthy choices and teaches them basic culinary skills so they can assist the family in making tasty and healthy recipes.

The Kohl's Associates in Action team (AiA) and Allen Crabtree, manager of the St. Petersburg Kohl's store were on hand to present a check for $216,365 for the continued support of the Kohl's Cooks for Kids programs with All Children's Hospital. Ten families pre-registered for the opportunity to compete for top chili recipe prizes including, $150, $100, and $75 gift cards to Publix. The winner of the top recipe received a $75 gift card to Toys R Us.

Thousands attended the Block party event and many had a chance to taste test all the recipes from the young chefs.  A panel of expert judges, including culinary experts and firefighters were on hand to interview and decide on the top recipes that included, Tur-Veggie Chili from Chef Cameron, Not My Mama's Chili, from Chef Aaliyah and Grandma's Chili, from Chef Alyssa.
