Asthma Family Day - Saturday, May 15

Families of kids with asthma know the facts firsthand.  Asthma is the most common chronic childhood Illness. Children with asthma are three times more likely to have school absences than children without asthma. What these families need to know is how to cope with the condition.

In an effort to help parents and children learn about successful strategies to manage asthma, All Children's Hospital, The Suncoast Pediatric Asthma Coalition, the Pinellas County Health Department, and many community partners will host the 9th Annual Asthma Family Day on Saturday, May 15 from 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. This free event will be held at All Children's Hospital Education and Conference Center at 701 4th Street South in St. Petersburg.

Asthma Family Day offers a variety of programs that are designed to improve asthma self-management skills and awareness.  Wassam Rahman, MD, will present "Understanding Asthma," while additional talks will include "Environmental Triggers" and  "Your Child's Asthma at School."

Also planned is an asthma panel addressing "Real Life With Asthma," giving parents an opportunity to ask questions directly of other parents, physicians, environmental specialists, respiratory therapists and pharmacists.  Children (ages 4 -12) will have the opportunity to participate in fun educational activities designed just for them. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served to all participants.
