Jackie Benson, RN is the February 2014 DAISY Award Recipient

Jackie Benson, RNJackie Benson, RN is the February 2014 DAISY Award recipient. She is a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The DAISY Award is presented monthly to an All Children's Hospital Nurse who has provided extraordinary service to our patients.

Jackie was nominated by a colleague who wrote:

I have had the privilege of working with Jackie for many, many years and I am continuously amazed at her love and dedication to the patients in the NICU at All Children's Hospital. Recently, one of Jackie's patients was very sick. It was likely the child would not survive. Jackie contacted the patient's family to have them come to the hospital to be with their child. Because of transportation issues, the family did not arrive until after the baby had passed away. Jackie provided amazing care for the baby. She bathed and dressing her in nice clothing in preparation for what was to come. Jackie even held and rocked the baby to provide comfort because the family was not able to be there. This is the incredible dedication that Jackie shows to her patients. She demonstrated love and compassion to this baby. To Jackie, her patients are not just an "assignment" they are all special. For that reason, I would like to nominate Jackie for the Daisy Award.

Jackie's director added:

Jackie has been a RN in the NICU for nearly 35 years.  She can readily take care of any of the infants in the NICU but her passion is taking care of the sickest babies, said Cindy Driscoll RN, BSN, MS, NEA-BC, Administrative Director of the NICU and RT. She provides care with great knowledge and skills and integrates true compassion for her patients and their families. That was evidenced in this nomination. She has a great way of diffusing stress for our families with her kind words and quick wit. She is very attentive to detail, not only on clinical parameters but  also those little details that mean so much to our families.

Thank you, Jackie, for the compassionate care you provide our patients.
