All Children's Hospital joins the National Association of Social Workers in celebrating National Social Work Month 2013. We salute our dedicated medical social workers for the service they provide to our patients and families.
Throughout the year, our social workers offer counseling, support and access community resources to help families make positive changes regarding their child's illness. As a part of the interdisciplinary team, social workers also help the medical team to understand the patient and family dynamics within the context of the family's social situation and to view the issues from all sides in order to develop a plan of care that will help patients and families to be as successful as possible once their child goes home.
This year's national theme is "Weaving Threads of Resilience and Advocacy: The Power of Social Work." Social workers are society's safety net, promoting positive social change. The social work profession was established more than 100 years ago to teach people the skills and give them the support they need to overcome social issues such as poverty, addiction, illness, abuse and discrimination and to reach their full potential as individuals.
