Our physicians also oversee research, clinical and educational programs within their area of expertise. Pediatric hematology, oncology, and transplant patients have complex physical, psychological, and social needs that are served by our multidisciplinary team approach to care. Team members include specialists from social work, child life, nursing, pharmacy, patient education, and nutrition.
Our Programs
Oncology
The Oncology Program is supported by diagnostic radiologists with expertise in interventional radiology, pediatric surgeons, pediatric radiation oncologists, child life specialists, physical and occupational therapy, a clinical pharmacist, and social workers.
Hematology
The Hematology Program follows approximately 300 patients with sickle cell disease and offers multidisciplinary therapy for these patients and their families.
Pediatric Thrombosis Program
The Pediatric Thrombosis Program is directed by Dr. Neil Goldenberg. The Pediatric Thrombosis Program combines the expertise of All Children's Hospital and Johns Hopkins Medicine to help children who have developed a blood clot in the veins (venous thrombosis) or arteries (arterial thrombosis). The program extends from inpatient to outpatient care, consultation, and access to the latest research developments in treatment via leadership and participation in clinical trials.
Sarcoma Program
The Sarcoma Program is in conjunction with Moffitt Cancer Center. Dr. Damon Reed, who conducts bench research to develop novel chemotherapeutic compounds, leads the sarcoma program and evaluates patients at both Moffitt Cancer Center and All Children's Hospital.
Blood and Marrow Transplant Program
The Blood and Marrow Transplant Program is affiliated with Moffitt Cancer Center and performs approximately 50 transplants annually. It is part of the National Marrow Donor Program and the Pediatric Blood & Marrow Transplant Consortium. It is approved by FACT and is Children's Oncology Group accredited.
Neuro-Oncology Program
The Neuro-Oncology Program is directed by Dr. Stacie Stapleton, who is formally trained in neurooncology. This is a very busy program with about 50 new brain tumor patients yearly. We have a weekly pediatric Neuro-Oncology Tumor Board to discuss complex cases. We have 4 pediatric neurosurgeons, 3 pediatric neuroradiologists, and the area's only pediatric neuropathologist.
CanSurvive Clinic
Our CanSurvive Clinic, led by Dr. Kelly Sawczyn, provides coordinated multidisciplinary survivorship care to help patients who have completed their acute oncology or transplant care manage their long-term healthcare needs. Services include physician evaluation, nurse education, social work support and other interventions that will empower patients and families to receive optimal healthcare.
We have a growing Clinical Research Program, which is staffed by three clinical research associates. It offers access to a variety of multidisciplinary or institutional clinical trials.
