Stories and Videos from our 2007 Telethon

Bryce Bryce
When doctors told Bryce's parents that their newborn needed surgery for Hirschsprung's Disease, mom knew all too well what they meant. She, too, was born with the disorder that disrupts normal development of the intestines - and had gone through multiple surgeries and a temporary colostomy as a child. Esther Esther
When most kids tackle the annual "what I did on my summer vacation" essay, they struggle to get four paragraphs out of the family trip to Grandma's. Not Esther. She wrote a book, entitled My Summer As A Human Pincushion. Read more or watch the video...
Faith Faith
She's three years old, but actually Faith has been an All Children's patient for longer than that. Back when Faith's mom was 20-weeks pregnant, she had an ultrasound -"because as an older mom, I was worried about Down Syndrome." When the chatty sonographer turned quiet, she knew something was wrong. Read more or watch the video...
Jonathan Jonathan

Christian
The first clue Christian's mom had that anything was wrong with her son was a knot on his forehead. Then, he began having something that looked like seizures whenever he woke up. The search for clues led from their pediatrician in Immokalee to All Children's Hospital, where Christian was diagnosed with a rare disorder called Gardner Syndrome. Watch the video...

Emma
Two and a half year old Emma suffered a nasty break of her leg in a freak stroller accident near her Venice home. She underwent surgery within hours at All Children's and faced weeks in traction on Four Southwest. Mom says the nurses are a huge reason the whole family has managed this as well as they have. Logan
Maybe it was his experience at All Children's Infusion Clinic each month, and maybe it had something to do with watching his father inject himself with insulin four times daily. Seven-year old Logan somehow knew how to save his diabetic father, who was having a stroke. Watch the video...

Mikey
The natural wooded areas of Spring Hill are Mikey’s favorite place to play. So when he and a friend were being chased by neighborhood bullies, he didn’t think twice about hiding in a palmetto bush. Trouble was - a family of rattlesnakes was already there. The resulting bites required 72 vials of antivenin to treat, and almost cost Mikey his leg. It took a team of All Children’s doctors, nurses and therapists to heal the wounds and manage Mikey’s pain. And on his fourteenth birthday, Mikey came back to the hospital to give them the best gift of all – his thanks. Watch the video...

Peyton
Most little girls don't skip down the hall to see their doctor. But Peyton is not your average little girl. This three-year-old from Brandon spends at least one day a week at All Children's Specialty Care of Tampa, undergoing treatment for leukemia. One new item used in her care is Virtual Reality Glasses; goggles and a headset that she wears to watch movies whenever painful procedures are needed. Prior to using the goggles, it would take 2-3 nurses to hold Peyton still for a lumbar puncture - even after medication. Now the staff's biggest concern is picking a movie that won't make Peyton giggle throughout the entire procedure. Watch the video...
